It might not be ready yet but keep us in mind for your holiday to Crete next year. This summer we are renovating Walnut Cottage in anticipation for the holiday season 2021.
Located on the edge of the sleepy village of Choumeri, Walnut Cottage is a traditional old stone property. The stunning views over countryside, mountains and sea make it a perfect place to escape the pressures and strains of everyday life and truly relax.
If you’re after peace and quiet then this could be just the place for you. Forget discos and noisy bars and think of traditional church bells, goats and olive groves.
The traditional village of Choumeri is small and quiet. There is a mimi market, two traditional kafenions and a taverna. Choumeri has not been touched by tourism, and a walk around the village gives you a real taste of Cretan life. Just 5km away (a seven minute drive in a car) is the town of Perama. Here you will find everything you need: supermarkets, pharmacies, cafes, banks and a medical centre. If you’re searching for traditional tavernas, cafes and bars, then the picturesque village of Panormos is only 11km away (a 12 minute drive in the car.)
Walnut Cottage is conveniently located close to many interesting sights and attractions. There are several beaches close by, Melidoni caves is a very short drive, Arkadi Monastery, the bustling old city of Rethymnon, the traditional pottery village of Margarites and plenty of other places are easily accessible. A car hire is definitely necessary, but the one hour journey from the airport is very easy to navigate.
The cottage itself is made up of a kitchen, bathroom, lounge with sofa bed and a double bedroom. In total Walnut Cottage can sleep four people. The surrounding garden offers outside seating for dining and relaxing, and a roof terrace.
It won’t be long before Walnut Cottage is ready to accept guests. In the mean time, you can keep following our progress on the blog.
